    The Student Steel Bridge Competition challenges students to connect their classroom knowledge to a practical and hands-on steel-design project that grows their interpersonal and professional skills, creativity, and fosters relationships between students and industry professionals.

    Each student team develops a concept for a scale-model steel bridge to span approximately 20 feet and to carry 2,500 pounds according to the competition rules. The team must determine how to assemble their bridge and then plan for a build under timed construction conditions at the competition. Bridges are also load-tested, weighed, and judged on aesthetics. Our team is proud to have been awarded Third Place in Construction Speed in 2026.

Timber Strong
    The Timber Strong competition has provided our students with the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge through the creation of a sustainable design and tangible product. Through programs like AutoCAD and Revit, student participants are able to practice civil engineering at a competitive level by producing quality structural plans and a BIM Model. Our team of rising engineers are motivated and enthusiastic about the hands-on experience we get with a project of this level of detail. With our award of Best in Show in 2026, our goal is to go far beyond winning, as we hope to create the next generation of successful engineers!
Concrete Canoe
    The ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition provides students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience while testing their skills with concrete mix designs and project management challenges.
The first ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition was held in 1988, but the history of Concrete Canoe goes back to the 1960s, when a small number of ASCE Student Chapters began holding intramural concrete canoe races.
This elite competition combining engineering excellence, hydrodynamic design, and racing technique is known as the "America's Cup of Civil Engineering", and our students love to participate and engage in this friendly competition every year!
